A knife used and recommended by generations of farmers, the Old Timer Senior is a traditional stockman’s knife. This Old Timer three blade pocket knife has a medium sheepfoot blade, a medium spey blade and a long clip blade with elongated nail nick for ease of use. This Old Timer knife features a curved handle fits nicely in the hand and rounded bolsters won’t wear a hole in the pocket. This Old Timer knife has a long blade length of 76mm and a closed length of 99mm. Delrin® handles. Design and finish • All Schrade Old Timer knives have bevelled cover edges and are contoured to fit the hand comfortably. • The size of the handle on an Old Timer knife matches the size of the blade for balance • Contoured, polished bolsters on Old Timer knives are designed to reduce pocket wear • Polished liner edges on Old Timer knives eliminate burrs and sharp edges • Hidden bolster pins on Old Timers assure superior structural integrity • A choice of lockback or liner locking designs Workmanship • The blade position of the Old Timer corresponds with the shape of the knife to assure a proper cutting angle • Old Timer blades are properly finished and ground sharpened • Schrade Old Timer knives are checked for walk and talk • All Schrade Old Timer knives undergo thorough quality control Durability • Schrade Old Timer knives flex positively due to their quality construction • All covers are pinned (not glued) for durability • The construction of the Old Timer knife is designed for full wear with structural integrity Blade Steel The blade steel is 440 high carbon stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 59-60; this is as hard as you can make a blade and retain sharpening ability and a certain degree of flexibility, so the blade is not brittle under pressure. In 1994 Schrade wrote that they found AISI 440 A stainless was equal to the 1095 high carbon blade steel they were using, but with a high degree of stain and rust resistance. You can be assured whichever steel is used, the Old Timer will keep a good edge. Handles The handles are manufactured in Delrin®. This is a nylon based material used as it does not chip, break, shrink or swell in normal use. It is saw cut for grip and pinned to the knife body for durability. Old Timer handles are designed to last the life of the knife. Blade Shapes There are various blade shapes available. The common types are pen, spey, clip, drop point, skinning and sheepfoot. Generally the squarer shaped blades such as sheepfoot and spey are stronger while the sharp pointed blades such as slip are good for finer work. Each Old Timer knife featured on this web site gives the blade type in the description. ‘Stainless Steel’ – there are over 160 grades of stainless steel with various properties depending on whether they are used for sinks, pots and pans, knives or in industry. Stainless means just that – it stains less. This does not mean it will not mark or corrode, particularly when applied to blade stainless steel which has a high carbon content (and generally a pretty hard life). Old Timer is one of Schrade’s premium brands, used and recommended by generations.
